Full-Stack Software Engineer

Background

FreshGrade Education is currently seeking a full-time permanent Software Engineer for either our Kelowna Innovation Centre Headquarters or our beautiful Vancouver Gastown office.

FreshGrade builds interactive products for teachers, students, and parents that change the way technology is used in classrooms around the world. It is an exciting market-driven Learning Portfolio Platform company committed to transforming education. Our technology connects school communities around the core learning conversations that improve learning.

The FreshGrade team works hard and collaboratively to high-quality specifications. We know how to have fun and celebrate success. Communication channels are short and Agile, and this means our people need to be flexible, cooperative, approachable and team-minded. FreshGrade leadership trusts its people to be accountable to meet the high standard of excellence expected by our customers.

Role Profile

Expectations are for an enthusiastic, functional coder with a keen ability to learn. The Software Engineer understands causes and fixes classes of bugs and uses this understanding to lower their overall defect rate. They are occasionally trusted to give code reviews in specific areas. Within a software development life cycle, at this level, the role holder should come up with questions regarding missed cases in the specification, and come up with reusable functions and objects that help to solve a problem.

This Software Engineer interacts with team members and peers to exchange semi-routine information related to assigned tasks within well-defined procedures. These tasks require the application of independent judgment, with the escalation of problems and roadblocks to FreshGrade Technical Leads, who regularly supervise the work and check in on a daily basis.

While still a start-up in many aspects, FreshGrade continues to evolve. Accordingly, proven experience in a start-up organization that has built up a significant market share while seeking to scale up further would be an advantage.
